One of the pillars of just about every religious tradition on earth is that of treating others as you would like to be treated. In a world with increasing violence towards those seen as disposable, it’s worth revisiting this idea and pondering why it has been a universal ideal throughout known history.
Only the meek will inherit the earth.
For anyone in any kind of power over another (which can be ANY of us in the right situation), it commands us to consider the good of the other above our own self gain. We should never want to harm or manipulate others. We should never desire entitlement at the expense of another. Why? Because God loves each of us equally. To harm one is to harm or assign lesser value to something God created and loves. That is truth, no matter how we might feel about it! If we choose harm to another, our gains will be short-lived. In heaven, there is only Love. Anything else is unable to exist. So whatever we gain on earth that is not of Love, we will not inherit. This is how the first become last and vice versa. Only the meek will inherit the earth.
In this piece, a man kneels in submission to his task. He raises a fragile bird from a nest that is threatened by a snake. From the darkness below, the bird is lifted in hope to fly with the other free birds. This piece is part of my book, “Arise to Blessedness” from Ave Maria Press. Also available on Amazon and Etsy.
